Get your team together and tackle the Tissington Trail as part of our Walk The Line event – a new challenge for Rail Aid 2021 that’s perfect for friends, families, colleagues and companies as a whole. Sponsored by KPMG and Thales this is one event everyone can enjoy that will help children around the world take their next steps to a better future too.
Rail history
The Tissington Trail follows the route of the former Buxton to Ashbourne railway line, and runs from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay, through the beautiful countryside of the Derbyshire Dales. Built as part of the London and North Western Railway, the Buxton to Ashbourne railway line opened in 1899 & closed in 1967.
Best feet forward
Once the track was removed, the route was transformed into a traffic-free recreational trail and opened to the public in 1971. It is mostly flat, ideal for walkers and the signal box at Hartington Station has been preserved so you can go inside and see how it worked. At its Southern end there is a 600m long tunnel.
Step it up
Choose to take on the one way 13-mile walk, or return to the start to clock up 26 miles in total. Either way there’ll be food and drinks offered at the 13-mile point and if one way is enough for you don’t worry, we’ll provide a minibus to get you back to the beginning once you’ve finished.
